This item was digitised as part of the ‘Perspectives on the Stirling Maxwell Collection’: a learning resource aiming to inspire new perspectives on material culture that is associated with history of slavery. It builds on the work of the History of Slavery Steering Group which has mentioned the Stirling Maxwell collection as one of the ways the University profited from slavery in the Caribbean. The work is intended as a contribution to ‘Decolonising the Curriculum’ initiatives that provide new insights into Scotland’s place in the world and supports the aims of the ‘Understanding Racism: Transforming University Cultures’ report.
