A summary of our solar energy research activities

Thanks to the invention of the transistor in the late 1940s, the field of electronic engineering has witnessed a rapid transformation. However, the way that the discipline has been taught is still deeply rooted in 20th century methods and textbooks. A paradigm shift in the way engineering is taught at universities is therefore necessary to ensure that bright minds are attracted to this important profession.

The purpose of this document is to provide a quick reference to the process of exam setting and moderation within the Glasgow College UESTC programme. This Handbook tells you the general procedures and important dates for completing and submitting your exam materials. This document also provides best practices that you can implement to help prepare your exam materials. This Handbook contains four appendices, which provide information about the programme’s useful contacts; comments from our previous external examiner; a brief literature review on Multiple Choice Questions; and examples of exam questions. These examples can be used as a guide to help you prepare an appropriate mix of design-based and problem solving questions for different levels of study. This Handbook is updated regularly, and the most up-to-date version will always be available from Moodle.

Solar cells are devices that are used to convert the Sun's vast energy into useful electricity. The aim of these lectures is to introduce penultimate year undergraduate students to the concepts of photovoltaic systems, including the Balance of Systems (BoS) therein. These slides are a small sample chosen from a 10 credit course on Photovoltaics. Further details can be obtained by contacting the course coordinator.

Faced with the fast-growing development of the electronics industry, students entering the corporate environment must be able to solve practical problems, work as a team and communicate well. This course was therefore designed to meet the needs of industry and the IET accreditation requirements. In particular, this handbook is intended to answer many questions related to Glasgow University’s flagship course on Team Design and Project Skills. It contains invaluable information about the UESTC 3010 course and what is required from students to be awarded the appropriate credits. Students should remember to keep this handbook safe, since it will be a useful reference throughout the course. This handbook is updated annually and students are advised to take time to study it again. Team Design and Project Skills (TDPS) is a mandatory course of the joint Glasgow College UESTC programme. The course is based on a team learning activity that aims to cultivate students’ professional knowledge, practical skills and core competencies in electronic and communications engineering. Students taking this course should be able to build experience of working in a team to design and construct electronic systems that must perform specific tasks within a specified budget.
